Michael Tobler

Michael Tobler is a Partner in the Corporate International Tax service line in Switzerland and serves as the Head of M&A Tax.

Professional experience

Michael Tobler specializes in international corporate tax advisory for Swiss-based and multinational companies, with a particular focus on mergers and acquisitions (M&A) and cross-border structuring. 

He has extensive experience in addressing the tax compliance and planning needs of international groups. Throughout his career, Michael has successfully advised on numerous acquisitions and joint ventures for private equity investors as well as multinational enterprises across various industries, including the financial restructuring of distressed companies.

In 2017, he undertook a short-term secondment at Grant Thornton India, where he concentrated on clients within the Swiss-Indio corridor. Since 2022, Michael has also been providing on-site advisory services to clients in Liechtenstein on a weekly basis. 

With over 18 years of professional experience in tax consulting, he joined Grant Thornton Switzerland at the end of 2013 after working for a Big 4 firm in Zurich. Michael began his career in an American headquartered chemical company, where he was involved in risk management within the treasury department.

Professional qualifications and memberships

Michael Tobler holds a degree in Business Administration with a specialization in Banking and Finance and is a certified tax expert in Switzerland. 

He is a member of EXPERTsuisse, the Swiss Turnaround Association, and the Swiss-Indian Chamber of Commerce.
